2014 Alberta Francophone games are headed to Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie is playing host to the 20th Alberta Francophone Games next weekend.

380 french speaking students from across the province will be competing in Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Ball Hockey, Badminton, and Ultimate Frisbee.

Monique Witzell, Executive Director of the Alberta Francophone Support Federation says the uniting aspect of sport is important to the community.

Whether it’s someone who has a lot of talent or maybe someone who is just going to have fun, it enables us to bring a large number of athletes together and share a piece of where they come from. We have athletes from Fort McMurray all the way down to Canmore who come to the Francophone Games.

The opening ceremonies are next Friday at Ecole Nouvelle Frontiere.

Events will be hosted there through out the weekend, and also at St Patrick School, St Joe’s, and the Dave Barr Arena.
