Drowning man rescued using back seat of police cruiser

A pair of mounties managed to rescue a man from the Peace River this morning using the backseat of their vehicle. RCMP, EMS and the fire department were called to a spot near downtown of the Town of Peace River just after 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

From the shoreline, emergency services spotted the man and sent out rescue boats and they called him to shore. However, it appeared he couldn’t make it on his own and was going under water.

Two of the RCMP instead used the backseat of their police vehice, which is made of foam, to float out to the man in distress. They were able to get him to shore, where he was treated by medical professionals.

Why the man was in the river in the first place has not been released.
