Solution to St. Patrick School building issues needed urgently

Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools’ Board of Trustees has written a letter to the Education Minister urging him to immediately send a temporary modular to St. Patrick Catholic School. The building’s subfloor is deteriorating due to a moisture and structural problem.

The school district has already spent $20,000 on upgrades to the gym floor, ventilation systems and water quality control, but it’s feared any action by the government could take at least three years. Board Chair Eldon Wyant says a more permanent solution is urgently needed, as the temporary ones are stretched.

The district’s top priority is a new 950 student school. École St. Gerard students would move into that, and St. Patrick students could move into their building. The other suggestion is for the province to modernize St. Patrick.
