Students and staff at Elmworth School are about halfway to their fundraising goal of $15,000 to build a solar powered greenhouse.
The initial plans for the greenhouse includes an aquaponic system, but Principal Christian Gee says there is so much more they can do with it.
“We’re trying to limit our carbon foot print and try and connect the kids with our food. Most of the food that we consume comes from a long ways away so if we can shine some light on that and at the same time enjoy getting green thumbs.”
Gee says they have been successful with local fundraising efforts so far, and have also received some generous corporate donations from Encana and Conoco Phillips.
