The number of people collecting employment insurance in Grande Prairie has gone up another 4.5 per cent. According to the most recent Statistics Canada data, there were 1,840 EI recipients in June, 60 more than in April.
That’s also nearly 75 per cent more than a year ago, and an almost 400 per cent increase over June 2014. The numbers are adjusted to account for seasonal layoffs, but mark the 10th consecutive month of an increase in beneficiaries.
Following a massive 12 per cent increase in May, people on EI province wide are down, but by less than a per cent. Across Canada, recipients were essentially unchanged.
