Alberta’s unemployment rate inches up to 7.9 per cent

The unemployment rate in western Alberta was relatively unchanged last month. It moved down 0.1 per cent to 7.7 in the economic region that stretches from Peace River to Banff. That’s still 2.3 per cent higher than a year ago.

The province overall saw the number of people without work go up 0.1 percentage point from May to 7.9 per cent. The most job losses were felt in construction and retail.

Across the country, the market was flat as well, as the unemployment rate also declined 0.1e per cent to 6.8 per cent. Only B.C. saw more jobs added.
