The Eastlink Centre will be doing a lockdown drill on Thursday. In order to practice emergency preparedness the facility practices these drills twice a year. There will be staff assisting with the procedures at around 1:15 tomorrow afternoon. There will be no entry or exit for the duration of the exercise and the city says it should only last a short time.
These types of drills are used to safeguard guests as well as staff when there is a threat in the area. This will also allow the facility to work out any kinks that could be in the plans, processes or response systems.
Practicing the drills in turn would allow people in the building to be better prepared if an event was actually to happen that needed a lockdown.
