Local high school student competing in Skills Canada Competition

A St Joseph’s Catholic High School student lucked out and is currently representing Alberta in New Brunswick at the Skills Canada Competition. Kayla Head was picked in a lottery draw after provincials were cancelled this year due to the Edmonton EXPO Centre being used for Fort McMurray Evacuees. Even though she didn’t get to compete to make it to Nationals, she wasn’t too discouraged.

“It was alright because the people needed a place to stay. When I found out I was actually going, I was really excited.”

Head is competing in photography.

“I really love being creative and capturing moments. I like capturing couples, families and hopefully I will get more into weddings. I am doing more weddings this year for sure.”

The competition wraps up tomorrow in Moncton.

Two local students qualified for nationals last year.
