The County’s of Grande Prairie’s new Division 8 councillor is a cattle farmer from La Glace. Karen Rosvold received more than three-quarters of the vote in Monday’s byelection. After volunteering for several years, she says she chose to run in the hopes of doing even more for her hometown.
“I’m just passionate about my community. Being green in this position, obviously I need to do some research and find out what they already have planned and then see what everybody wants and needs.”
During her campaign Rosvold says she managed to knock on about 95 per cent of the doors in the La Glace and Valhalla area. Most residents were interested to learn more about a potential new community centre and the repair of a few roads.
“When I went into this, I talked to a few people and they said, ‘yes, do it.’ I’m just overwhelmed with the tremendous support that I’ve received. I chose to run for this because I’ve been a super big volunteer in the area, and to me, this was the next step to help within the community.”
Rosvold will serve until the next municipal election set for October 2017. She’ll be sworn in next Monday.
