The Third Annual McCllelland Oilfield Rental’s GP100 Soap Box Derby will not be happening this year. Organizers have decided to postpone the event due to the economic downturn and not having the resources to carry it on.
President of Grande Prairie Rotary After Five Club Lionel Frey says this has been a tougher year on sponsors and businesses but the cancellation of this year’s event does not mean that the derby will not return in the future. He adds that coming from a business perspective the club understands the position of these sponsors.
It was originally launched in May 2014 as a family event and fundraiser with ages 9 to 14 participating.
