UPDATE: High winds fuelling wildfire close section of Highway 97

UPDATE: The Alaska Highway has been closed from the south end of the Taylor Bridge to the 230 Road between Fort St. John and Dawson Creek. The closure is indefinite as there are high winds feeding the fire in the area.

BC Wildfire Services says backup has been called in as all their resources are being used to fight fires in the Peace right now. 21 fires are burning in the Fort St. John zone and 16 in the Dawson Creek zone.

Wildfires have spread throughout the BC Peace which have prompted Evacuation orders and alerts.

The Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for the Charlie Lake areas of 281 Road south of Highway 29N including Joyce Avenue and Jensen Avenue. The Order is also for 279 Road south of Highway 29N including Koop Road up to the boundary of Tea Creek.

There is also an Evacuation Order for areas of Baldonnel due to the threat of wildfire. The areas include North of the junction of 238 Road and 249 Road,and North along 249 Road to 242 Road. The area East to 245 Road encompassing residents on both sides of the road as well as South to the 238 Road are also included.
