Grande Prairie represented at Miss Universe Canada pageant this summer

A local woman is representing Grande Prairie in Toronto as 1 of 50 delegates selected for the upcoming Miss Universe Canada pageant. Kelsey Baile is participating in pageants for the first time ever and says there is a lot that goes into preparation.

“We have four different sections in the pageant. We train in each one. There is the interview which is the most important. They ask you about different problems in the country. We have fitness which is the bikini competition and evening gown [category] for elegance. There is the humanitarian section which I am very excited about”

Operation Smile is her choice of charity which has 18 year old and under kids receive free cleft palate surgeries in Nicaragua. She will be hosting a cultural night at the end of April or beginning of May as a fundraiser that will include silent auction.

If she is picked as the top five girls in the competition, she will get two minutes to talk on national television as well as live streamed online about an issue she is passionate about.

“If I had those two minutes I would be able to talk about anything I want. I would talk about anti-bullying and body positivity which I think is such a great thing to talk about right now in our society.”

She will take off for her first pageant on June 4th after heading to two more training sessions in Calgary.

If you would like to help Kelsey Baile fund raise for her trips for training and other pageant fees, you can go to her gofundme account.
