Back to normal operations at GPRC Fairview after shooting

Classes are back in session at Grande Prairie Regional College in Fairview after a shooting Sunday night. An 18 year old man was shot in a parking lot of the campus just before 7 p.m. and was taken to hospital in Edmonton stable but in critical condition.

Witnesses say he was shot at from a greyish-green car with three men in it. A vehicle matching that description led police on a chase through Grande Prairie later that night, but the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns. RCMP are having trouble confirming it was the same vehicle, due to conflicting reports about the make.

Inspector Jack Pointras says that the victim and the two people he were with were not previously known to police and didn’t recognize the shooters. At this point it’s unknown if the man shot was the intended victim. His condition has reportedly improved.

Security at the college has been increased for the rest of the week, although it’s believed this was an isolated incident between the people involved. Counselling is also available for students and staff.
