First Children’s Festival comes to the region in 2017

A teacher with big dreams to bring a Children’s festival to the area will bring it to life next spring. Aum Nicol has started Grande Prairie’s first ever Children’s Festival of Arts which will take place next spring. She already has plans on where the events will take place.

“I am seeing tents in front of the Centre for Creative Arts. We have booked there for the dance room and in some of the rooms there will be arts and crafts or some activity like pottery.”

Music, theatre, arts and crafts will be some of the activities included in the new festival. They are looking for local performers as well as provincial and national people as well. She got the idea from the Children’s Festival in St. Albert where she used to take her classes.

A breast cancer survivor and now recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, She found it natural to make it happen in Grande Prairie.

“I decided since I am home a lot, let me create this festival idea and pass it over to community organizations that might want to pick it up.”

The whole festival will be run under the Grande Prairie Live Theatre organization and be held May 25th-26th, 2017.
