Spirit River mountie perjury trial underway

The trial for Constable Matthew Slipp continues today in Grande Prairie. The Spirit River mountie is charged with intent to mislead and perjury for allegedly faking a legal document in connection with an incident in February 2013.

He reportedly knew that the affidavit showing someone couldn’t be served legal papers was false. Slipp was suspended with pay in December of that year and given $5,000 from the RCMP to cover his court costs.

A trial was originally set for last October but it was adjourned so he could figure out how to fund his defence, after a request for an additional $50,000 was denied. The trial started Tuesday morning and is expected to wrap up Thursday.
