Ice front expected to move through Town of Peace River today

An ice front is making its way towards the Town of Peace River, and could mean rapidly changing water levels. Alberta Environment says the ice front was 13 kilometres downstream of the Highway 2 bridge late yesterday, and it’s expected to pass through the town later today or overnight.

When ice jams like that happen, it’s normal for water levels to rise 2.5 to 3.5 metres. No problems are expected, but a river freeze up advisory is in place for parts of northwestern Alberta.
