High-capacity internet will soon be the norm in Horse Lake First Nation.
The fiber optic infrastructure project will bring high-speed internet services to Horse Lake First Nation, as part of the Canada–Alberta broadband initiative.
GPNetworks first broke ground for the project in spring of 2024, with the goal to deliver scalable connectivity that supports present needs and future growth, for the community.
The project was co-sponsored by the Government of Alberta, and the Government of Canada through the Universal Broadband Fund, bringing the total budget $1,655,000.
Over 170 households in Horse Lake will benefit from the project, expanding access and digital opportunity.
“Completing this project for Horse Lake First Nation is a meaningful milestone for GPNetworks,” said Kobus De Jager, CEO. “We are proud to have delivered infrastructure that supports the community, strengthens digital access, and helps create opportunities for residents, local services, and future growth. Horse Lake First Nation has been part of our story since the early days of GPNetworks, and we are honoured to continue building that relationship.”
Officials say the project help reflect the importance of building infrastructure that supports long-term community growth, access to services, education, communication, and participation in the digital economy.
