Aquatera receives Leaders in Sustainability award

Aquatera Utilities Inc. has been named one of the 2025 Leaders in Sustainability Award recipients by Call2Recycle Canada, a national battery collection and recycling organization.

The Leaders in Sustainability Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate environmental leadership through responsible management of end-of-life batteries and measurable contributions to Canada’s circular economy.

Through its participation in Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, Aquatera collected more than 5,502 kilograms of household batteries in 2025. Collection efforts began in June, making the total significant, the company said.

Aquatera is one of several organizations recognized this year, including retailers, municipalities, waste and recycling operators and businesses working to advance waste diversion efforts across the country.

“2025 was a milestone year for the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, driven largely by the continued leadership and collaboration of partners like Aquatera across the country,” said Joe Zenobio, president and CEO of Call2Recycle Canada. “Organizations like Aquatera play a critical role in strengthening Canada’s battery recycling system. We are pleased to recognize their commitment to sustainability and their efforts to advance Canada’s circular economy.”

Aquatera said the recognition reflects a shared commitment between the organization and the communities it serves.

“Environmental stewardship is core to Aquatera’s purpose of Growing Healthy Communities,” said Vaughn Bend, chief executive officer of Aquatera Utilities Inc. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the residents we serve, who continue to make responsible recycling a priority. By working together, we are helping divert hazardous materials from landfills and strengthening Canada’s circular economy for future generations.”
