Mary Brown’s fire considered arson attempt

RCMP are calling yesterday’s fire at Mary Brown’s Restaurant a case of attempted arson. A small fire was set outside the building in Westgate around 9 a.m., but someone walking by was able to put it out as they called 9-1-1.

Constable Melanie Skidmore says surveillance footage shows three people going into the store and pouring gasoline over the floor. They then leave and light a fire by the back exit. It’s believed they left in a small, dark coloured SUV that was seen in the area at the time.

The restaurant wasn’t open yet and no one was hurt. An investigation into the incident continues and anyone with information is asked to come forward to police or Crime Stoppers.
