Military personnel, equipment to pass through Valleyview Sunday

Military personnel and equipment is planned to make it’s way through Valleyview, starting Sunday.

According to Canadian Armed Forces officials, Operation NANOOK-NUNALIVUT will be taking place from Sunday, Feb. 8th through to the 11th and starting in Edmonton with Yellowknife being the final destination.

The operation is said to demonstrate the Canadian Armed Forces ability to project and sustain forces in the High Arctic under harsh conditions, while assessing new capabilities and to work with Allies.

The planned route will include: northwest on Highway 43, north on Highway 49, north on Highway 2, north on Highway 35, north on Highway 1 (Mackenzie Highway), northeast on Highway 3 (Frontier Trail).

Officials say you may see military personnel in operational clothing during scheduled rest stops. It is also noted that participating soldiers will not carry weapons or ammunition when making stops in the public.

Motorists are asked to use caution when travelling near these vehicles and to pass safely. Officials added that the convoys are not expected to disrupt traffic, as they will move in small groups with spacing between vehicles to support safe travel.
