Clairmont seniors housing receives international award

The new Clairmont affordable housing facility is still a year away from completion and already the project is earning international accolades.

The Grande Spirit Foundation has received the award for the Most Outstanding Affordable Seniors Housing Project in the World in 2015 for their work on the new 150 unit facility. Richard Harpe, who is both the Grande Spirit Foundation’s board chair and a County Councillor, traveled to London, England recently to accept the award. He says it’s an honor he is happy to accept on behalf of both the Grande Spirit Foundation and all the seniors who will benefit from the facility once it is complete.

Ground broke on the project in July of this year, and it is expected to be complete sometime in late 2016. The federal and provincial governments have jointly provided $19.6 million to fund the project, while the County of Grande Prairie is responsible for another $700,000. The land for the facility was donated.
