Bill 6 passed in Alberta legislature

Bill 6 has passed third reading in the Alberta legislature by a vote of 44 to 29.

The controversial farm safety bill makes Workers Compensation Board coverage mandatory for farms and ranches with paid workers starting January first, and includes them in Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Amendments to the bill were introduced earlier this week, making it clear that family farms and ranches are excluded, along with anyone volunteering their time like neighbours and friends.

With that, the house is adjourned and legislature will resume sitting in February.
