Koe moves on to Canada Cup men’s finals

It will be Kevin Koe in the finals against Mike McEwen at the Home Hardware Canada Cup. Koe defeated John Epping 7-6 in an extra end at Saturday night’s semifinal at Revolution Place.

“It feels good for sure. That was a big game,” says Koe. “They played great. We were always in control, never down, but they just never went away. It was a good battle for us and nice to pull it out.”

It was Epping’s third battle of the day after beating Reid Carruthers in the tenth end and Pat Simmons in a tiebreaker. He can’t say whether fatigue was a factor in his loss though

“It has to, I guess. I don’t know. It had to,” he said. “I would like to think maybe we would have been better under pressure but I thought we hung in there for being as tired as we were. We tried not to show it if we were.”

When Koe and McEwen met in the round Robin, McEwen came out on top, which is why he was given a buy to the finals. Their championship goes at 5 p.m. Sunday. The women start at 11 a.m.
