Canada Cup a homecoming for Team Canada second Carter Rycroft

Peace Country native Carter Rycroft is on his way back to Grande Prairie this week, along with the rest of Team Canada, to take part in the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling. Rycroft plays second for the Pat Simmons rink and is on his second season as part of Team Canada. Rycroft says the team has started their season off at a more relaxed pace, but still plan to compete in 7 or 8 events before the Brier in March.

“We’re going to Japan this year, of course Las Vegas where the Continental Cup is, and an event in Pheonix too. We’re kind of moving around, not playing all the normal events that we’d normally play. Just kind of mixing it up, kind of having a different experience and going to different places.”

Two members of the team will be playing in front of a hometown crowd this week as both Rycroft and team alternate Tom Sallows are from the swan city. Rycroft says it is always a treat to be able to play in front of friends and family at home.

Rounding out the team is Calgary’s John Morris plays as third and Nolan Thiessen as first.
