$70,000 in solar panels are now installed at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management. The County of Grande Prairie purchased 72 of the panels, which have been installed in solar arrays.
Reeve Leanne Beaupre says the panels are in a move in the direction of environmental stewardship and making operations more cost effective and efficient. The County’s long term goal is to develop more sustainable infrastructure in their communities.
The panels, which have a life span of about 30 year’s, will also be hooked up to a metre so the county can be credited for the power they produce. Any excess electricity that is generated and not used for the recycling and waste centre will be returned to the grid system for the use of other county residents.
