Murder charge laid 16 months after Cutbank shooting death

RCMP have made a third arrest in connection with the death of a Grande Prairie man more than 16 months ago. Yesterday, 43 year old Thomas Sutton of Tumbler Ridge was arrested and charged with second degree murder through the combined efforts of the Alberta Major Crimes Unit and RCMP Detachments from Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Tumbler Ridge.

The charges stem from an incident on June 25, 2014 when 27 year old Devin Pisch of Grande Prairie was shot and killed at the Cutbank staging area south of the city. A second man was also shot during the incident, but was taken to hospital and survived his injuries.

At the time two men, 33 year old Gregory Decker and 34 year old Jerrid Rychard, were arrested but police were unable to lay any murder related charges against them. Rychard has since been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for drugs and weapons-related charges. Decker is awaiting a preliminary hearing in November on similar charges.

Sutton, meanwhile, is being transported from British Columbia to appear before a Justice of the Peace in Alberta to speak to his murder charge. A date for that appearance has not yet been set.
