City to repair problem spots along Bear Creek banks

A couple of spots on the slopes along the Bear Creek have been wearing down over the past couple years and now two of them have gotten to the point where they need to be reinforced to prevent further damage. Those two locations are near 100 Street and 72 Avenue and just north of 68 Avenue on the east side of the bridge.

Community Safety Director Horacio Galanti says they have been keeping a close eye on trouble spots to see when it would become necessary to do repairs.

“So this is an ongoing program year after year, but these are the two critical locations. A contractor will put some anchors on the base to basically stop the movement of the slope and provide more stability to the slope.”

Galanti says there are a few other places along the Bear Creek corridor that may soon need repairs. For now the city is spending just over half a million dollars to fix the two most troublesome spots.
