Eastlink Centre pool to be equipped with moving floor

The city has elected to spend just over a million dollars on an adjustable floor to be installed in the 50 metre pool at the Eastlink Centre. The money for the floor has been re-allocated from the Leisure Centre renovation project, which has been put on the back burner for the time being.

Once installed, the floor can be raised or lowered to different heights depending on what type of activity needs to be accommodated. City Councillor Lorne Radbourne says this will be especially beneficial because right now the facility doesn’t have a pool specifically for youth learning to swim.

“Even the seniors aerobics, mom and tot programs, there could even be youth parties there. The pool is generally too deep so this will provide us some flexibility to make it shallower, therefore we would be able different events and programs.”

Radbourne says the sooner the adjustable floor can be installed and the sooner the Eastlink Centre can expand their available programming, the better.
