The town of Sexsmith is taking a step in a greener direction. Town council voted earlier this week to start using 10 per cent green energy in power city buildings and facilities.
Sexsmith Mayor Claude Lagace says there will be a bit more of a cost to using green energy, which has to be shipped from a different part of the province.
“It’s from down south, the companies that have the windmills are already putting some [energy] on the grid, it’s just a matter of us investing in it so them can move forward with producing more.”
Legace says the increase to the power bill will be about 5 per cent, but he says the benefits of using green energy make it worth the price.
