While the unemployment rate continues to rise across the province, it has dipped in western Alberta. It’s sitting at 4.8 per cent in the economic region that houses both Grande Prairie and Peace River, after jumping to 5.5 per cent last month. It was down to 3.7 the month before.
According to Statistics Canada, there were 8,700 more unemployed people in the province in July, combined with a loss of 4,300 jobs, mostly part-time. The energy sector continues to struggle, with 1,700 jobs lost last month.
