Emergency funding for Elders Caring Shelter Society approved

Grande Prairie city council has approved emergency community group funding for the Elders Caring Shelter Society. On Tuesday, councillors approved $26,000 to help the shelter pay for outstanding operational costs, including utility and grocery bills.

The funding will come from the Neighbourhood Association operating grant budget to support the organization until the second portion of its provincial grant comes through in mid-October.

The Elders Caring Shelter works with seniors in the community facing financial crisis because of health issues, making it so they cannot work, with some of the individuals who access the service reported to be fleeing violent situations.
