Connecting trail project moves forward for the city, county

The two-kilometre fully paved trail connecting South Bear Creek Park to the Dunes trails is one step closer, with Wapiti Gravel Suppliers being awarded the $1.3 million contract.

The collaborative trail project was announced in June when the project received a $750,000 grant from the federal government to move forward. During the announcement, it was reported that the County of Grande Prairie would pay $263,000 in construction costs through its municipal reserve funding. The City of Grande Prairie budgeted $48,981 for the project.

The trail connector will run adjacent to Range Road 61, past the Aquatera landfill, and include a new pedestrian crossing at Secondary Highway 668. The total estimated cost for the project is more than $1.5 million and is expected to be completed by this fall.
