The wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has increased to moderate. Alberta Wildfire says there are still 10 wildfires burning in the region, including two that are being held and eight under control.
Over the past day, one new wildfire has sparked. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 51 wildfires in the local forest area burning 141, 423 hectares.
The wildfire 20 kilometres north of Valhalla Centre is now considered to be 100 per cent contained with a guard and 90 per cent controlled. It’s estimated to be 872 hectares in size and it is classified as under control.
The wildfire roughly 60 kilometres southwest of Grovedale is classified as under control at 94 hectares. It was caused by lightning and firefighters are monitoring it and extinguishing hot spots when detected.
The Bald Mountain fire roughly 17 kilometres west of Highway 40 is classified as under control at 19,435 hectares.
