UPDATE #3: ATCO says power has been restored to Sexsmith and the rural Sexsmith and Grande Prairie areas. The power is still off in the area of Bear Lake and an industrial area in the west part of Grande Prairie. The restoration time is unknown.
UPDATE #2: ATCO says the cause of the outage was defective equipment.
UPDATE: Power has been restored for many but there is still an outage in the Sexsmith area affecting more than 2,100 customers. The estimated time of restoration is 5 p.m.
Thousands in Clairmont, Sexsmith, and the north end of Grande Prairie are without power Wednesday morning. ATCO says the outage started at 5:44 a.m. and more than 5,000 customers are affected.
The cause is being assessed. The estimated time of restoration is 10 a.m.
