Peace Region drivers compete at national chuckwagon competitions

Grande Prairie chuckwagon driver Chanse Vigen made his presence known at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby. Vigen recorded the top time four times during the ten day show. However, seven seconds in penalties put him in the fourth place spot when the dust settled Saturday night, keeping him out of the Championship Dash.

Kurt Bensmiller, Layne MacGillivray, and Ross Knight were the three drivers in the championship, with MacGillivray winning his first Calgary Stampede title.

When the 10-day show wrapped up Sunday, July 15th, Grande Prairie drivers Kirk and Mitch Sutherland finished 17th and 18th in the standings. Grande Prairie’s Mark Sutherland, who retired at the end of the Stampede, finished fifth in the standings. Fairview driver Cody Risdale wrapped up the ten-day show, sitting 25th in the standings.

In Lloydminster, Dean and Tuff Dreger ran in the North American Chuckwagon Championship. At the end of the nine-day show, Tuff finished 9th in the standings, with Dean coming in 11th.
