The Teepee Creek Stampede starts Thursday with several events throughout the day, including the Future Stampeders rodeo, the first night of the All Pro Canadian Chuckwagons, and beer gardens headliner Trevor Panczak. Miss Teepee Creek Stampede 2022 Olivia Maclennan says what is unique about the Thursday night beer gardens is it is family-friendly.
“Most places just have the beer gardens on Friday and Saturday, but it is nice that we include a Family Day on Thursday,” she says.
Throughout the event, Maclennan says there are also events for kids to do, including the wild pony races and calf scramble during the rodeo. She adds the biggest thing she thinks that sets Teepee Creek apart from other rodeos is the community atmosphere.
“It’s not just a rodeo. It is cool to see how excited everyone gets and how it brings everyone together. Teepee Creek is such a small community, but when the rodeo happens it is super big and fun.”
Over the past year, Maclennan has represented the community as Miss Teepee Creek at the Canadian Finals Rodeo, the National Finals Rodeo, and, most recently, the Calgary Stampede. She explains one of the highlights of the journey is meeting different people.
“The biggest question I get is, ‘oh, Teepee Creek, where’s that?’, so I get to tell a lot of people down south what the rodeos up north are like and I get to kind of gather people,” Maclennan says. “Last Saturday, I met a little boy who wanted me to sign his cowboy hat, and I saw that I had already signed it, which is really cool because I believe I met him in Dawson Creek.”
During this weekend’s event, the 2023 Miss Teepee Creek Stampede will be introduced, marking the end of this journey for Maclennan.
“When one door closes, another one opens. While I am sad to see this journey end, I am excited to see what the future holds.”
The Stampede runs from Thursday, July 13th to Sunday, July 16th.
