The County of Grande Prairie has eased the fire ban down to a fire restriction, as wet cool weather has settled into the region. Effective at 5 p.m. on June 14th, a fire restriction is in place for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley.
County Fire Chief Trevor Grant says despite the cooler conditions, they’re still urging residents to practice extreme caution this fire season.
“Conditions can change very rapidly during fire season, and while precipitation is good news for the area, we must remain vigilant,” he says. “We’re asking everyone to use their common sense to help keep our family, friends and neighbours safe.”
Approved permit holders remain restricted to approved recreational fire pits, approved burn barrels and propane fired appliances. Residents are also reminded that burning is never permitted when winds reach, or are forecasted to reach, 12 kilometres per hour or higher.
