Wildfire risk downgraded to high for Grande Prairie Forest area

The wildfire risk in the Grande Prairie Forest area has been downgraded to High by Alberta Wildfire.

According to Alberta Wildfire, “Areas to the North of our area are the driest and may exhibit increase fire behaviour.”

Residents are being reminded improperly extinguished fires can easily respark, especially when high winds are involved and are urging those who frequent the area to check on winter burn sites.

As of May 30th, 31 wildfires have been reported in the region, with four reported as “being held” and 27 having been put out. Both the Sturgeon Lake Complex wildfire and the Bald Mountain wildfire are considered as “being held.”
