Wildfire danger level back to extreme in Grande Prairie Forest Area

Alberta Wildfire has upgraded the danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Level back to extreme, after it was set at Very High for the last few days. Officials are urging anyone who is outdoors in the area to avoid any activities that involve fire or sparks when the conditions are this hot, dry and windy.

They ask anyone who is required in the area and are towing a trailer, to please remember to do a maintenance check to ensure the tires are not worn, the bearings and axles are greased, and safety chains are properly in place and not dragging on the ground. Keep sparks away from dry vegetation.

Environment Canada has also issued a special weather statement for the Grande Prairie region, as temperatures 10 to 15 degrees Celcius higher than average are expected to blanket the area starting this weekend.

The national meteorological service is reporting that daytime highs are expected to be in the high 20s to low 30s between Sunday and Tuesday, with overnight lows only dipping to the low teens.
