UPDATE: Second wildfire south of Grande Prairie contained

UPDATE: The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service has announced that the small wildfire south of Grande Prairie is now contained. The blaze was identified shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, and local crews with the help of Alberta Wildfire contained the fire in short order. Crews will remain on scene monitoring and putting out hotspots

Another small wildfire, which is believed to be under control, has been reported east of Highway 40 in the County of Grande Prairie. Alberta Wildfire tells MyGrandePrarieNow.com the 0.10 hectare fire was detected via aircraft Wednesday morning, resources were pivoted from the nearby Dunes West Wildfire to tend to the incident, hitting it with water buckets.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The provincial crews from the Dunes West Wildfire have since returned to working the large 1,400-hectare fire close to the Wapiti River, and County of Grande Prairie fire crews remain on the scene of the new blaze to monitor the situation as the investigation continues.
