Valleyview issues voluntary evacuation alert for people with mobility, respiratory issues

The Town of Valleyview has issued a voluntary evacuation alert. While there is no reported risk to the town from wildfire at this time, people with mobility or respiratory issues are being told they can voluntarily evacuate to Edmonton.

Anyone needing help to do so due to mobility issues can call Community Services at 780-524-9583 for help. Anyone evacuating is urged to take several days of clothing, food, water, toiletries, and important documentation, as well as necessary supplies for children and pets.

Drivers will need to fuel up in Edmonton as there is reportedly no fuel left in Fox Creek due to that area’s evacuation. Valleyview is currently the reception centre for wildfire evacuees from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and a wildfire north of the town.

Highway 43 is closed west of the town to Bezanson.
