UPDATE: Evacuation underway for County of Grande Prairie residents near Wapiti River wildfire

UPDATE #2: The evacuation area has been expanded to include Range Road 73.

UPDATE: The County of Grande Prairie has declared a state of local emergency.

An evacuation order has been issued for County of Grande Prairie residents near an out-of-control wildfire. Those living from Township Road 710 to the Wapiti River and Highway 40 to Range Road 72 south of the City of Grande Prairie are being told to evacuate immediately.

Evacuating residents are being asked to use the nearest range road north toward the City of Grande Prairie and to register at Bonnetts Energy Centre. If you need help evacuating, call 1-825-606-5092.

Anyone evacuating is being urged to bring all important documents, medications, food, water, and important supplies, as well as pets, and to plan to be away from home for three days.
