Minimum wage rising to $11.20 October 1st

Alberta is moving towards a $15 an hour minimum wage by 2018, and the first change is set for October first. At that time, the general minimum wage will go up from $10.20 an hour to $11.20. The liquor server wage will increase to $10.70 from $9.20.

Raising the minimum wage was one of the NDP’s campaign promises, as Premier Rachel Notley argues the province’s minimum wage is the lowest in the country, but we have one of the highest costs of living. Along with the one dollar increase this year, the liquor server rate will be phased out over two years.
