City launching program to promote energy efficiency

The City of Grande Prairie is launching a new program aimed at reducing residents’ energy consumption, lowering their carbon footprint, and improving property values.

Engagement Advisor Jessica Ross says the Clean Energy Improvement program will provide property owners with affordable, long-term financing that is tied to the property and not the property owner making it more flexible.

“We are thrilled to launch the Clean Energy Improvement Program and help our community reduce their energy consumption and lower their carbon footprint. Through this program, residential property owners can make energy efficiency upgrades with low upfront costs and improve their property values while contributing to the community’s sustainability goals.”

Ross calls the program an innovative financing tool that could benefit anyone as well as help achieve the community’s sustainability goals.

“It’s important that we have tools that are available to residents who want to upgrade their homes with energy efficiency. It helps reduce energy consumption and lower carbon footprint, which is important to many residents.”

Two information sessions on the program will be held on May 4th. Experts will explain how the tool works, its benefits, and how to apply for financing.

The first session will be virtual from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The second session will be in-person from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rotary Room at the Montrose Cultural Centre. The residential Clean Energy Improvement Program will be available as of May 9th.
