Memorial fundraiser aimed at providing wigs for local children

A local real estate agent has teamed up with Serenity Wig Boutique at 2day FM to raise enough money to help at least two local children get a wig through Angel Hair For Kids.

Kevin Vobeyda is raising money, along with cutting off and donating his hair, in memory of his mother who passed away from cancer. Vobeyda says while his mom was going through chemotherapy she lost her hair, so, in her honour, he is donating his hair to the organization.

“It’s a program that actually collects hair and makes wigs for kids that are going through chemotherapy, or that have alopecia, or any other medical issues that might cause them to lose their hair,” Vobeyda explains.

Locally, Serenity Wig Boutique in Restore Hair Loss & Scalp Clinic works with the organization to help youth in the Peace Country and this is where Vobeyda will be donating his hair on his birthday, March 29th. Along with the hair donation, he is hoping to raise enough funds to create two wigs, which typically takes between 10 to 12 ponytails of donated hair to make and a minimum of $2,000.

“After going through as an observer with my mother, losing her hair was very difficult on her, and she was a 70-year-old woman. I can just imagine how difficult it could be on a younger person going through this.”

Last year, Vobeyda raised donations for Bandaged Paws by shaving off his infamous beard, which won a fun “Battle of the Beards” competition put on by 104.7 2day FM.
As of March 23rd $3,110 of the $4,000 had been raised. Those wanting to donate can do so until March 30th.
