County of Grande Prairie truck routes, road bans changing at end of March

Changes to the County of Grande Prairie’s truck routes and permanent road ban network will be going into effect at the end of the month.

Director of Public Works Ryan Konowalyk explains with the infrastructure upgrades over the past few years, a review of the system was necessary, especially when looking at safety, load capacities, and efficient usage.

“The review and implementation of the new truck routes and permanent road bans ties into Council’s Strategic Plan and its goal to provide efficient and safe transportation networks that meet the needs of residents, business and industry,” Konowalyk says.

He adds variables such as whether or not a road could handle the legal axle weight were considered during the review. According to the county, truck route and non-truck route signage in the county will be updated by March 25th.
