Wheat Kings take 2-0 series lead into game three of NWJHL final

The County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings are leading the Fort St. John Huskies two games to none heading into game three of the North West Junior Hockey League championship series.

The Wheat Kings won game one on the road in Fort St. John at the North Peace Arena 4 – 2. The Wheat Kings and Huskies met up at the Crosslink County Sportsplex Saturday, where the home team won in an overtime decision.

The Huskies were on the board 3:41 into the first period with a goal from Colby Busche. The visiting team kept the lead until 6:44 into the second when Mason Kyllo scored a power-play goal for the County team. The game remained tied throughout the remainder of the second and the entirety of third period, forcing overtime. Wheat Kings forward Landen Gourlie scored 10:49 in, putting the Wheat Kings on the winning side of the 2-1 game.

Game three of the championship series is Tuesday, March 21st at the North Peace Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Game four will follow in Grande Prairie on Thursday.
