Grande Prairie Gap Factory not affected by closures

The Gap is closing 175 of its namesake stores and slashing 250 jobs at its headquarters, in an attempt to strengthen the brand. The stores will be chosen based on factors like location and performance, but the shop in Grande Prairie won’t be affected as the Gap Factory and Gap Outlet chains aren’t included.

The company says the store closings and job cuts are expected to save around $25 million a year, but related charges will cost between $140 and $160 million. After the shut downs, Gap will have roughly 800 stores across North America, down from 960.

It’s not clear whether workers will be laid off or relocated.
