An extreme cold warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning regions. Environment Canada says extremely cold wind chill values near minus 40 are expected Monday night.
“A few areas may see wind chill values approach minus 50.”
It’s expected wind chill values will begin to moderate slightly Wednesday afternoon. Environment Canada says eastern and northern parts of the province will likely see wind chill values near minus 40 again Wednesday night.
People in the area are urged to watch for cold-related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
