UPDATE: Highway 2 bridge in Peace River reopens after crash

UPDATE #2: The collision has now been cleared and the Highway 2 bridge in Peace River is open to traffic in both directions.

UPDATE: The RCMP says traffic over the Peace River bridge is now alternating, single lane flow. Drivers should still expect delays and are asked to drive with caution.

Significant traffic delays are expected following a crash on the Highway 2 bridge over the Peace River. The RCMP says the head on collision between two pickup trucks happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

One of the vehicle’s drivers has sustained serious injuries while the two people the second vehicle sustained minor injuries.

A collision analyst has been dispatched to the scene. While the investigation is underway, traffic is being diverted from the bridge.

On the west side, traffic is being detoured at Shaftesbury Trail. On the east side, traffic is being sent to the exit to downtown Peace River.

Drivers needing to cross the Peace River are asked to use the bridge in Highway 986 north of the Town of Peace River.
